How do I know if my windows are single or double paned?

Modified on Mon, 25 Sep, 2023 at 7:42 PM

Single-pane windows are made with one layer of glass, while double-pane windows have two panes of glass.  Often, between the two panes of glass in double-pane windows there is argon gas that also acts as insulation.  Triple pane windows, no surprise now, have three panes of glass!

Two or three panes of glass means more layers of protection between the outdoor elements and your comfortable living room.

So how do you tell?  We here at HomeBoost found a little trick - shine your flashlight and if you see one, two, or three lights reflecting back at you - then you have that many panes.
