What is a finished vs unfinished basement?

Modified on Sun, 24 Mar at 3:24 PM

A finished basement is one that has been fully converted into a livable space, similar to the other rooms in your home. This means it has been insulated, framed, and drywalled, and it typically has electrical wiring and lighting installed.

An unfinished basement, on the other hand, typically has concrete floors, exposed joists or rafters, visible ductwork and piping, and minimal to no insulation.
